Highlights of IDC DX Regional Summit 2020

This year’s IDC Digital Transformation (DX) Summit 2020 was officially capped off yesterday. Hosted on IDC Arena, the IDC DX Regional Summit 2020 was filled with inspiring talks and sessions featuring leading brands and vendors. Furthermore, Asia/Pacific’s best-of-the-best was unveiled with the awarding of the regional DXa winners.

To begin, IDC Asia/Pacific Managing Director, Eva Au, delivered an impactful welcome address. Then, IDC Asia/Pacific Group Vice President, Sandra Ng, discussed strategies for Winning Today and Leading in the Next Normal. Afterward, IDC Worldwide President Crawford Del Prete and National Trades Union Congress Assistant Secretary-General Patrick Tay had a fireside chat.

Specifically, they had an exchange regarding digital acceleration and its impact on new and permanent work models. With organizations managing remote working conditions amidst today’s uncertainty, they gave tips on how to optimize the hybrid working models. For this purpose, they disclosed approaches for skills development and unlocked talents and capabilities needed.

Meanwhile, IDC Asia/Pacific’s Sandra Ng and Telstra’s Sanjay Nayak had a dialogue on how to streamline application performance to drive superior connectivity. Daniel Kwong, CITIC Telecom’s Chief Information and Innovation Officer, had a presentation about transitioning in the new normal. In particular, he emphasized that innovation never stops so organizations should adjust accordingly. Thereafter, Kyung-Whu Chung from MicroStrategy described the global state of enterprise analytics. He began by citing challenges faced by businesses then provided the necessary recommendations.

For the summit’s first panel, it was moderated by Jason Gorud, IDC Asia/Pacific’s Group Vice President for Integrated Marketing Programs. To enumerate, the panelists were Sabrina Tan (Skin Inc), Shaun Chong (Ninja Van), and Wai Mun Lim (Doctor Anywhere). In summary, they focused on giving insights on how business leaders can adapt to uncontrollable exogenous events.

On the other hand, IDC ASEAN Managing Director, Sudev Bangah, facilitated a discussion between Carlos Santos (JG Summit), SK Agrawal (Indorama Ventures PCL), and Verena Siow (SAP). Particularly, these highly experienced industry leaders tackled the fundamentals of becoming a leading edge, data-driven decision-making entity. Finally, IDC Asia/Pacific’s Eva Au invited Edwin Bautista (UnionBank of the Philippines) and Vijay Shah (Piramal Enterprises) to talk about the board’s agenda. For this purpose, they shared how they steer their organizations through turmoil and how they are bracing themselves for future disruptions.

Finally, the most awaited part of the event was the revealing of this year’s regional winners. Out of 1,280+ nominations across the Asia/Pacific, UnionBank of the Philippines emerged as the Digital Trailblazer. Conversely, Piramal Glass and Ather Energy bagged the Regional Digital Transformer and Regional Digital Disruptor distinctions respectively. Additionally, Singapore-based organizations like UOB and Singtel become a part of the prestigious circle of winners.

With the drastic changes brought by the pandemic, IDC Asia/Pacific’s Sandra Ng underscored the “digital determination of organizations and their leaders”. Furthermore, she said that this year’s DX Awards winners have been “tried and tested” as they exhibited technology-enabled resilience. To illustrate, they picked up their speed and fast-tracked their digital transformation initiatives to overcome the challenges of a global crisis.

To conclude, the exponential growth of IDC Digital Transformation Awards is a clear indication that the digital movement is growing.
